By itself, Orre is a definite haven of competitive Pokemon battling - and how could it not be! With not only its own Battle Resort, it has several sanctioned arenas and a definitive system of ranking that attracts qualified trainers the world over. And as a city on its outskirts, Garasu is no stranger to its enthused audience and allows Pokemon battles in the vast majority of areas. But, until recent years, that provided a problem of needing far too many places to fight, the 'nuisance' causing collateral damage throughout the reason.
However, thanks to a breakthrough from the far-off region of Ferrum, the damages from these battles are far more mitigated, thanks to the 'Battle Field' system. Sanctioned Trainers - those with a Pokedex - are given a Poke-Gear, an advanced device worn like a wristwatch. Though varied in design, these devices show the status of both your active and reserve Pokemon, as well as a myriad of other convenient functions such as showing the time or pulling the local weather report.
Of course, the most interesting thing these devices are capable of (by most popular opinion, anyway) is the projection of the 'Ferrous Battle System Integration', or the 'BSi' or 'Battle Field' for short. In typical use, when two devices are in-range and in agreement of combat, the devices scan the nearby area for suitability. Provided everything is in order, the system will activate, projecting an energy barrier outward that mitigates wayward Pokemon attacks. The size and shape of the barrier, by-default defined as a fifteen-yard circle, can be adjusted by agreement of both parties. And though the fields are not indestructible, they are nonetheless durable enough to 'bounce' thrown Pokemon back into the arena (and the rare 'breaks' in the field are usually defined as a ring-out loss).
This is simply the most basic use. Most sanctioned and friendly matches in Garasu are performed with the Ferrous BSi, and registered Colosseum and Battlefields have generated fields by default. Fighting can still occur without the system, but do trainers really want to be liable for the damage they cause?
Oh! And from within a barrier, any normal Poke-Gear can release it without consent of the other party. In tournament play, this is defined as a forfeit. Licensed officers can also disable fields from the outside, if need be.
